Our First Blog Post

Glad You're Here!

Hi, everyone!  This blog marks the beginning of a new venture that I'm pretty sure may not even really get off the ground.  What kind of way to launch a business is that you say?  It's definitely not, but I just need to put that vulnerability I'm feeling out there...

flynn's table story-abridged

So for over a decade now I've had a vision for a coffee house/restaurant/community center.  One day, years later, the name of said coffee house/restaurant/community center woke me out of a sleepy slumber.  The next day I bought my first-ever domain:  flynnstable.com.  Year after year, I've renewed that domain and started to feel like I would never make my dream a reality.

Along the way, my daughter Emily has always been Flynn's Tables's biggest fan & pretend customer.  She's cheered me on and has helped me to bring part of my dream to life.  She's always seen my vision and now the vision has morphed into our vision.  I love that we get to do this together.  When we would see Flynn's Table, we would also see that small shop selling perfectly curated pretty things for your home somehow intertwined into the coffee house and restaurant.  Then this past spring I quit my job of 16-years in private equity and decided I would start smaller.

Since making it in the restaurant business is almost impossible (and expensive!), we decided we would start with an online market first and the restaurant/coffee house/community center will just have to come later.  But aren't there way too many choices already for online shopping you say?  Probably and maybe.  But we're willing to hedge our bets that there is more room in this market.  Why?  Because just like why we hate food menus with pages and pages of choices, the struggle is real when shopping on the large company websites where you can easily waste 20-30 minutes searching through pages and pages of stuff you would never buy.  Unless I know exactly what I want, the search features via Amazon and Target create anxiety instead of joy.  What if for just a few minutes you want to peruse a few perfectly curated pleasing, pretty wares and gifts?  There's just not much out there.

So here we go!  Welcome to Flynn's market!  Look around, maybe pick up something, and more importantly, please subscribe to our blog.  I promise we won't send you junk.  We will probably post two or three times a week.  Our blog topics will be random and not nearly this long.  Most will be short and sweet like outfit steals and finds, before and after projects, DIY projects, fan favorite recipes, our favorite things, and snippets about what my kids teach me - really, just a fun menagerie of topics.

About me

We are a family of five.  My husband Derek and I were born and raised in Baltimore, met in high school (albeit different high schools), and married eight+ years later.  Our Emily arrived first, then Aidan, and last, Lela (pronounced Layla).  We could never imagine a home without our pets.  We've had many.  Current furry residents include our two adopted mutts,  9-year-old Lulu and our nearly 3-year-old Otto.  I love reading (when I can find peace and quiet and time), decorating, drawing, coffee-chats, chocolate, photography, cooking, eating healthy foods, gardening, yoga, and driving the back roads whenever possible.

Thanks for stopping by,

:)Trish
